This list will show in order from 10 to 1 the top XL Pitbull Kennels as seen by me. They will be rated on popularity, overall quality of health, consistency and
productions.
I personally believe that these areas are the most important when it comes to judging a kennels quality. There are many kennels out there, but few
make the grade when it comes to being on the top 10 list of best Pit Bull kennels.
Remember some kennels may score higher in some areas but lower in others because of how long their kennel has been around or how well known that
kennel currently is or how healthy their dogs are known to be.
All Kennels listed are considered to be reputable and trustworthy in my eyes. This list is very important because it very well may tell you who is trustworthy enough to buy your next Pitbull from or who not to. So, let’s get started on the who’s who of the XL
Pitbull kennel world.
Muglestons Pitbull Farm- Muglestons Pitbull Farm comes in at number 10 on my list. They are one of the last original kennels that are still breeding today.
They are known for producing thick, blocky heads with strong thick bodies. Their dogs normally are shorter to medium height with muscular
builds. They normally carry more of the American bully look rather than the traditional American Pitbull terrier look.
The style of dogs they produce are still popular today even though they don’t produce the biggest XL Pit bulls anymore.
In the beginning they produced some of the biggest XL Pit bulls you could find on the market and were one of the most popular as well. As time has gone by
several newer kennels have jumped leaps and bounds to overtake the once top dog of the XL Pit bull world.
● Popularity- Although the name Muglestons is still known by many it isn’t
what it once was. Not only have they dropped on internet search results
like “Google” but around the dog community as well. When other breeders
or potential buyers bring up bloodlines or kennel names Muglestons are
rarely brought up anymore. When it comes to popularity on the internet
and then the dog community itself Mugleston no longer stands out which
makes the rating score in this area lower. So, because of these things
Muglestons rate a 5.5 out of 10 on the popularity rating list in my eyes.
This is a little lower than average rating which hurts their overall rating on
the list of top 10 kennels.
● Quality of health- Mugleston is known to produce an overall healthy dog.
All kennels can and will produce a health problem here and there but the
lower the percent of unhealthy compared to healthy is known to be pretty
high with Muglestons. This means if you buy a puppy or a dog from
Mugleston more often than not your puppy or dog will be in good general
health and have a low chance of genetic issue or disease. This is very
important for a kennel, in fact in my eyes the most important. If this isn’t
good too great a kennel should consider starting their program over to
make sure they can produce quality dogs. Having a low risk of health
issues with their dog gives Muglestons an 8.5 out of 10 on the quality of
health rating. Most clients feel safe that their dog will be very healthy when
buying from Muglestons Pit bull Farm.
● Consistency- Muglestons is known to produce a certain look normally but
as the years have gone by their look has changed some with the times.
Having dogs that carry different looks and styles will lead to different looks
and styles when they are bred together. Although they have changed
some, Muglestons are still known to produce a very consistent look and
most times clients know exactly the look of the dog they are going to get
when they buy from Muglestons. This is because their line has been line
bred over the years many times and when you look at their dogs you will
see Muglestons over and over again in most of their dog’s pedigree.
Producing consistency is very important when it comes to being a great
well-known kennel. Muglestons receives a 7 out of 10 in consistency with
the dogs they produce.
● Productions- Muglestons have been breeding since 1993 so as you can
imagine they have many productions out there. An exact number of
productions is impossible to know for most kennels that have been around
for a while. But it is very easy to say they have produced hundreds of
puppies and have probably produced more dogs than most kennels on this
list if not all. But again, quantity does not mean quality productions. In
order to score high on this part of the list you have to have produced many
well-known dogs that are being used by other kennels and are popular in
the dog community. The kennels that do the best on this list are the ones
with dogs that lots of people know the productions by name or the
production is a very popularly used stud in the dog community. In the past
Muglestons did produce many well-known productions, many became
highly used studs in the dog community. But as time has gone by, their
production power has dropped, and studs are less used or known.
Muglestons score a 7 out of 10 in productions based on these things.
● Overall review and rating- Muglestons overall review is good, obviously
or they wouldn’t have made this list. They produce a quality dog that you
can trust to be healthy with a pretty consistent look. Although they do
struggle with their ratings on the internet and dog communities nowadays.
They receive a trustworthy kennel rating and stand as number 10 on the
top 10 list. Muglestons overall total rating is a 7 out of 10 in our judging
areas.
Hurricane Bay Kennels- Hurricane Bay comes in at number 9 on the
list. They have been breeding for a very long time as well starting back in 2001.
They are known for trying to produce medium height dogs with big thick heavy
bodies. They also normally carry more of the American bully style look rather
than the American Pit bull terrier. Their style of dog is popular today and
produces some of the bigger American bully/American Pit bulls on the market.
Although they aren’t on the biggest produced dogs list, they do sit in a
respectable spot on it.
● Popularity- Hurricane Bay is a fairly well-known name on internet
searches like “Google”. You can find them fairly easily and if you are
looking up kennels by commonly used phrases there is a decent chance,
they will appear for you on it. As for the dog community they are well
known and have a good following in today’s market. The desire for their
dogs and studs is notable although not as high as others on this list.
Having the name Hurricane Bay in your dog or dogs’ pedigree is
respectable and considered a quality pedigree. In popularity Hurricane Bay
scores a 7 out of 10 by our ratings. They are in a respectable position in
popularity but could easily be higher.
● Quality of health- Hurricane Bay is known to produce overall healthy dogs
just like everyone on this list. Their ratio from unhealthy dogs to healthy
dogs is very good as far as I know. As well are the chances of getting a
dog with genetic issues or diseases very low. One thing about Hurricane
Bay dogs because of their heavy thick bodies they will not be as athletic as
some dogs out there which can increase the chances of injury. Also, heavy
shorter legs can lead to joint issues later in life in these dogs. Although it is
not commonly known for Hurricane Bay to have joint issues in their dogs
the risk is a little higher with shorter legged very heavy dogs. As with all
dogs don’t push them to do more than they can handle. Every style of dog
has its limits and pushing them further can lead to injury. In this area
Hurricane Bay scores an 8 out of 10 in quality of health with their dogs.
● Consistency- Hurricane Bay is now known for a certain look but it has
changed over the years with what is popular in the dog community. They
originally started out with more traditional looks but over the last few years
have gone to a much more American Bully style look rather than the
American Pit bull terrier look. Granted no XL Pit bull is going to look like
the classic Pit bull terriers but some carry more of the body type, muzzle
length, and head shape. With Hurricane Bay I feel there are a lot of
different styles with their dogs from looks, height and even many different
colors. It is not a kennel where you can just tell it is a Hurricane Bay
production right out of the gate most times. Because of this they score a
6.5 out of 10. They do produce an overall consistent dog in health, but
their look may vary from litter to litter.
● Productions- Hurricane Bay has been breeding since 2001 so you can
imagine they have many productions out there. An exact number of
productions is impossible to know as in most kennels that have been
around for a while. But it is very easy to say they have produced hundreds
of puppies and are definitely high on the total productions list. Over the
years they have produced several dogs that were known in the dog
community for their great size and good looks. Although being around as
long as they have you would hope for more top well-known productions
that are super popular in the dog world. But nevertheless, Hurricane Bay is
known to produce a quality dog that normally doesn’t disappoint their
clients. Because of this they score an 8 out of 10 in this area of the list.
Clients can trust they are getting what they are looking for from Hurricane
Bay kennels.
● Overall review and rating- Hurricane Bay overall review is good,
obviously or they wouldn’t have made this list. They produce a quality dog
that you can trust to be healthy with a pretty consistent look. Their overall
popularity and internet presence is good, and they have a good standing in
the dog community. They receive a trustworthy kennel rating and stand as
number 9 on the top 10 list. Hurricane Bay Kennels overall total rating is a
7.37 out of 10 in our judging areas.
Topdog Bullies- Topdog Bullies comes in at number 8 on the list. They
have been breeding for a very long time as well, breeding this style of dog for
over 10 years. They are known for trying to produce medium height dogs with
clean athletic builds but still thicker and muscular. They also normally carry more
of the American Pitbull look rather than the American bully look. Their style of
dog is popular today, but they are not known for having very large dogs. They
focus more on color and tight skin rather than trying to produce super large dogs.
They are a respectable kennel that will deliver what they promise.
● Popularity- Topdog Bullies is a well-known name on internet searches
like “Google”. You can find them fairly easily and if you are looking up
kennels by commonly used phrases there is a good chance, they will
appear for you on most researches. As for the dog community they are
well known and have a good following in today’s community. The desire for
their dogs and use of their studs is notable although not as high as others
on this list because many kennels are looking to add more overall size to
their programs. Having the name Topdog Bullies in your dog or dogs’
pedigree is respectable and considered a quality pedigree because of a
few legends that were loved from their kennel. In popularity Topdog Bullies
scores a 7.5 out of 10 by our ratings. They are popular enough to draw
attention and be found by many.
● Quality of health- Topdog Bullies is known to produce overall healthy
dogs just like everyone on this list. Their ratio from unhealthy dogs to
healthy dogs is very good as far as I know. As well are the chances of
getting a dog with genetic issues or diseases very low. There are no
known problems with health in the dog community with Topdog Bullies
dogs. Because they normally don’t produce larger dogs and the style of
dog, they produce isn’t overdone with huge heavy bodies with shorter legs
Topdog Bullies will probably see less of an issue with joints as their dogs
age and will have an overall longer healthier life then some kennels dogs
will. In this area Topdog Bullies score an 8.5 out of 10 in Quality of health.
● Consistency- Topdog Bullies are known for a very consistent look just like
most kennels that focus on the American Pitbull look over the American
Bully look. With athletic builds and tight skin, you can definitely see a
family resemblance when you are looking at Topdog Bullies dogs.
Although just like many kennels today they have started to dip into new
areas when it comes to adding in colors that are popular in today’s market.
Even though this takes away from the consistency looks and colors they
have been known for many years now it is still easy to see a production
from their kennel. Because they mostly stay true to the look, they have
been producing from the start they score an 8.75 out of 10 in the
consistency area.
● Productions- Topdog Bullies has been breeding this style of dog for over
10 years so you can imagine they have many productions out there as
well. An exact number of productions is impossible to know just like the
other kennels that have been around for a long time. But it is very easy to
say they have produced hundreds of puppies and are definitely high on the
total productions list as well. There aren’t many kennels that can say they
have a legend or had a legend in their program, but Topdog Bullies is one.
Their stud Ace was a very well-known male that was loved and highly used
and wanted in pedigrees for years after his death. Ace has paved the way
for most of their dogs now and is bred heavy into their dogs today.
Although that being said Ace was the main star of the kennel, and no one
has truly stepped up to take his place or has been as popular since his
death. Ace to date is their best stud and you want to see a kennel produce
better over the years so we would have liked to see Ace just be a
steppingstone for the next top stud they produced. Because of this Topdog
Bullies scores a 7 out of 10. They produce great dogs but full short on out
producing their main stud.
● Overall review and rating- Topdog Bullies overall review is good,
obviously or they wouldn’t have made this list. They produce a high-quality
dog that you can trust to be healthy with a good athletic consistent look.
Their overall popularity and internet presence is good, and they have a
good standing in the dog community. They receive a trustworthy kennel
rating and stand as number 8 on the top 10 list. Topdog Bullies overall
total rating is a 7.93 out of 10 in our judging areas at this time.
Pro Bulls- Pro Bulls comes in at number 7 on the list. They have been
breeding for over 18 years and have mastered the look that they like. They are
known for trying to produce medium to tall height dogs with big thick heavy
bodies and heads. They also normally carry more of the American bully style look
rather than the American Pitbull terrier. Their style of dog is popular today and
produces some of the bigger American bully/American Pitbulls on the market.
Their dogs normally carry a lot of extra weight leading to extra skin and less
athletic looks.
● Popularity- Pro Bulls is harder to find on internet searches like “Google”.
You can’t find them as easy on common internet searches as a lot of the
other popular kennels. As for the dog community they are well known and
have a good following in today’s market. The desire for their dogs and use
of their studs is pretty high, much higher than you would think for a kennel
with a bad Google search review. Having the name Pro Bulls in your dog
or dogs’ pedigree is popular and considered a quality pedigree. In
popularity Pro Bulls scores a 7.75 out of 10 by our ratings. They are in a
respectable position in popularity but could easily be higher with better
internet rating.
● Quality of health- Pro Bulls is known to produce overall healthy dogs just
like everyone on this list. Their ratio from unhealthy dogs to healthy dogs is
pretty good as far as I know. As well are the chances of getting a dog with
genetic issues or diseases low. However, I have heard of some health
issues from several people that have purchased Pro bulls dogs. As I said
before, every kennel will produce a problem here and there, but issues
come up a little more than I like when Pro Bulls is brought up. Because
they normally produce very large heavy dogs, joint or hip problems can
appear. Also, because many times these dogs are built on the overdone
carrying too much weight for their bodies things like heart problems can
arise. Remember just like a person a fat dog isn’t healthy and will shorten
your dog’s life span. Now this isn’t really a breeders problem a dog being
kept over weight, but their dogs do seem to put on extra weight more than
that is good for their frames easier than a lot of other kennels breeding
lines. In this area Pro Bulls score a 7 out of 10 in Quality of health.
● Consistency- Pro Bulls does have a very consistent look. From the
beginning they have focused on medium height very thick overdone dogs
that carry a large amount of weight. They never focused on clean tight
skin but more on weight, chest width and head size. One thing about Pro
Bulls is you know what you are getting when you get one of their puppies.
It is easy to see in their productions and if that is what a client is looking
for, they are rarely disappointed with their dog. Recently they have started
playing with color like almost all kennels today, but they still keep the
overall same body type with their dogs. Because of this they score an 8.75
out of 10 in this area.
● Productions- Pro Bulls has been breeding this style of dog for over 18
years so you can imagine they have many productions out there, more
than most. An exact number of productions is impossible to know just like
the other kennels that have been around for a long time. But it is very easy
to say they have produced hundreds of puppies and are definitely high on
the total productions list. They are also a kennel that can say they too had
a legend in their program. Their stud Kong was one of a kind and highly
sought after. He was used by many kennels to add size and girth to their
programs. Very few kennels can say they had a dog as popular or used as
Kong was. Even though no stud in their program has truly taken Kong
place since he has passed, they do have several sons that are stepping up
to the plate to fill his shoes. Pro Bulls have many productions that are
noteworthy and can say they definitely can produce some quality dogs. In
this area they score a 9 out of 10.
● Overall review and rating- Pro Bulls overall review is good, obviously or
they wouldn’t have made this list. They produce a quality dog that you can
trust to be healthy for the most part. The overweight builds are concerning
to me though. Their overall popularity is good, and they have a good
standing in the dog community. But their internet presence is low and
definitely needs improvement. They receive a trustworthy kennel rating
and stand as number 7 on the top 10 list. Pro Bulls overall total rating is
an 8.12 out of 10 in our judging areas at this time. This number could
increase with better internet presence.
To Be Continued…
